Lucky John Ayu is a range of small spoons designed primarily for trout fishing. The elongated shape and gently curved profile produce a pronounced action that can be controlled by changing the retrieve speed.
The centre of gravity is positioned towards the rear of the spoon to improve casting performance. This makes it easier to cover larger areas and reach fish feeding farther from the bank.
The 2.4 g (0.08 oz) model works well in shallow water and during mid-water retrieves. The heavier 3.5 g (0.12 oz) version can be fished slightly deeper and, with a slow retrieve, just above the bottom.
Ayu can be retrieved steadily, fished with short pauses or worked with gentle twitches. Changes of pace and brief drops allow the presentation to be adjusted to the depth and current activity of the trout.
