Lucky John Kubira Swim Shad is a range of large soft lures designed for targeting pike, zander and European catfish. The substantial fish-shaped body and paddle tail create a clearly visible profile and allow the lure to be retrieved steadily or worked in lifts and drops close to the bottom.
Kubira Swim Shad can be used in deeper parts of lakes and reservoirs, through the middle layers of the water and across shallow areas covered with vegetation. The soft material is infused with a shrimp scent, adding an olfactory element to the lure’s presentation.
Action on the retrieve and during the drop
During a steady retrieve, the paddle tail produces a pronounced swimming action and makes it possible to cover open water, broad flats and the edges of weed beds. The retrieve speed can be adjusted to the depth: a slower pace keeps the lure closer to the bottom, while faster winding is suitable for fishing above vegetation and in shallower water.

Jig heads and offset hook rigs
Over open bottoms, the lure can be rigged on a conventional jig head selected according to the depth, retrieve speed and strength of the current. This setup provides good control during the drop and makes it easier to maintain regular contact with the bottom.
A moulded channel in the body allows the point of an offset hook to be concealed. This helps reduce snagging when the lure is worked through vegetation, branches and other underwater obstacles. Depending on the lure size, offset hooks around 6/0 and 10/0 are recommended. Kubira Swim Shad can also be used with a free-moving weight, including a Carolina rig.
Two sizes for large predators
The 5-inch / 12.7 cm model weighs 16 g and is supplied in packs of 3. It is a versatile size for pike and zander and can be fished on a standard jig head or an offset hook rig.
The larger 7-inch / 17.8 cm version weighs 48 g and is supplied in packs of 2. Its larger profile is suited to targeting sizeable pike, zander and European catfish, with the rigging and added weight selected according to the depth and fishing conditions.
Natural colour patterns suit clear water and venues with plenty of baitfish. Contrasting colours can be useful in reduced visibility, at greater depth and during overcast conditions.
