Lucky John Shad-X is a series of floating lures designed for active predator fishing. The range includes two models of the same length but with different weights and running depths: the Shad-X 8F for shallower presentations and the Shad-XDR 8F with a longer diving lip for reaching deeper water.
Both lures measure 8 cm and can be fished with a steady retrieve or worked with twitching movements. Short rod taps give the lure a more irregular action, while a smooth retrieve allows it to maintain its natural movement and cover water efficiently.
Lucky John Shad-X 8F weighs 13 g and runs to approximately 1.2 m. It is well suited to fishing over shallow flats, along marginal drop-offs, beside weed beds and in areas where predators are feeding in the upper and middle layers of the water.
Lucky John Shad-XDR 8F weighs 14 g and, thanks to its extended diving lip, reaches approximately 2.5 m. This version is designed for deeper drop-offs, channels, submerged structure and other places where fish are holding below the range of the standard model.

The floating construction makes it easier to control the lure around cover. When the retrieve is paused, the lure begins to rise towards the surface, helping it pass over weed, rocks and other underwater obstacles. A pause can also trigger a strike from a predator following the lure.
Shad-X performs well on a steady retrieve with changes of speed, while twitching produces a more dynamic and unpredictable action. When fish are less active, shorter twitches and longer pauses can give them more time to approach and strike.
The two running-depth options make it possible to cover different parts of the water column without changing the basic size and profile of the lure. Shad-X 8F is intended for shallower fishing, while Shad-XDR 8F reaches more than a metre deeper.

Lucky John is best known for its wide range of spinning lures designed for perch, zander, pike, trout and other predatory fish. The range includes soft lures, wobblers, inline spinners and spoons that can be matched to different venues, fishing depths and retrieval styles.

Lucky John also offers a limited selection of spinning rods, which form a small addition to the brand’s extensive lure range.
