Dead Fish is one wobbler in a thousand. No company in the world offers bait which imitates the movement of hurt, ill and dying fish in such a perfect and accurate way. And we know that dying fish makes easy, and therefore perfect, prey for a predator. Long time ago, at the beginning of my fishing adventure, I liked to spin with the use of dead fish; I thought no artificial bait will never be so effective for predators, especially pike, as the skilfully led dead bleak or gudgeon. However, in the course of spinning the most difficult was to angle using bait and stop fish falling down the systems.
Moreover, when I went fishing I had to take the whole equipment for small fish angling and then lift all the stuff on my back, as I was going by bus.
If we add problems with small fish angling, especially late in autumn, I started to think how to imitate the movement of such fish on a system with artificial bait. And we know that dying fish makes easy, and therefore perfect, prey for a predator. Since I learnt not once that it is the specific movement in the water and very slow leading that are the secret of success. This is how I decided to construct Dead Fish, bait which, led as slowly as possible, will behave like fish which was injured or escaped from predator’s jaws and is unable to recover. Surely each of you has not once seen such small bleak floating on the surface in a strange and uncoordinated way.
This wobbler behaves in a very similar way: it floats sideways relatively shallowly (the 8 cm Dead Fish goes to c.a. 60-70 cm underneath) and, if the angler is a bit imaginative, it is deceptively similar to the movement of ill or hurt fish. The little imagination is crucial, as this is not a kind of bait which “catches fish by itself”; to make total use of this wobbler’s values, we have to know how to work with the rod to prevent it from swimming straight and make it go sideways, surface and then dive suddenly – that is how dying fish behave.
By the way, Dead Fish angling is a great fun for me, especially in clear and shallow water where a wobbler is visible from a considerable distance and we may delight in its movement; what is more a predator biting in shallow fishing ground is always an unforgettable experience. Therefore, we see that Dead Fish is bait useful in shallow fishing grounds up to 1.5-2 metres and designed rather for stagnant water reservoirs. It is perfect for any type of ponds, old river beds, clay pit ponds, etc. As there are exceptions to each rule, another application was found for Dead Fish.
My few friends from Lesko, perfect San trout anglers, use the 6 cm model to catch beautiful trout in the fast-flowing San River. At first, I was quite surprised, but when I saw the technique of fishing with that wobbler in the river, my surprise turned into admiration of the anglers. Such angling is based on a throw of the wobbler across the river and letting it drift freely (however under control) in a tightened line. The water current itself makes the bait move. I guarantee that few trout specimens are able to resist the temptation to attack prey which goes to their mouths itself. Dead Fish led in such a way is a perfect imitation of weak fish that cannot resist the current and is carried down. I think it is a perfect way of catching other river predators. Surely, each angler with a bit of imagination finds their method of Dead Fish application.
